Fire Damages Southwoods Condo, No One Injured
Mehlville Fire Protection District responded to the Sappington-area fire Thursday evening.
A condominium fire at Southwoods complex in Sappington forced residents to evacuate unharmed July 19.
But Dan Furrer, deputy chief of the Mehlville Fire Protection District, said the condo unit has extensive smoke and water damage.
The fire was first reported at 9:43 p.m. Thursday on the 9200 block of Bent Pine Court off Gravois. Furrer said of the 10 units in the condo building, the fire damaged three as well as the roof.
Mehlville Fire responders, as well as teams from Crestwood, Affton and Webster Groves, had the fire under control in less than an hour.
"It's still under speculation, but we believe the fire might have started outside on the lower level," Furrer said. The affected unit consists of two stories in the front and three in the rear.
Furrer said Mehlville is assisting the St. Louis County Bomb and Arson squad investigation into the cause of the fire.
