Crestwood Artwork Chosen for CHARACTERPlus

third-grader Olivia Karcher’s artwork was recently chosen as the design for one of five CHARACTERPlus greeting cards, along with artwork from Affton, Rockwood, Fox and Special School District.

All area school districts were invited to participate in the celebration of character contest, and artwork was displayed at the Family Reading Festival held at Crestwood Court in December.

Crestwood is a National School of Character and a National Blue Ribbon School.

Three Football Players Make All-State

Congratulations to football seniors Sam Rohr, Chris Kew and Grant Krueger who were named to the Missouri Coaches 2012 All-State Team. Krueger was named to first team defensive back; Rohr to second team offensive line; and Kew to second team linebacker. In addition, Krueger made first team All-Metro, which includes athletes from the entire metro St. Louis area.

Crestwood Student Saves a LIfe

Crestwood Elementary School fourth-grader Tyler Brown was awarded the “Fantastic Kid Award” for using his first aid knowledge to help save a classmate last month. Tyler saw a classmate choking on the bus and remembered learning the Heimlich maneuver in health class. He put his classroom lesson into very practical use and saved the child’s life. 

Concord Good Citizens ‘Stick’ Together

Concord Elementary School third-graders Sarah Hartmann and Sophia Bufalo have come up with a service solution that sticks. The girls created flowers, purses, wallets and bows out of colored duct tape and sold them at school to raise money for charity. The girls raised almost $200, which they then donated to Joplin Schools, and also to the family of Sperreng Middle School teacher Carol Gloss, whose family lost their home to a fire in December.

Chess Team Takes Second Place Honors at Home Tournament

The Lindbergh High School chess team took home the second place team trophy at the Lindbergh Team Tournament Jan. 28. In addition, junior Vidhan Srivastava placed first in Board 1, sophomore Samuel Stephens took home first in Board 2, and junior RJ Mohr placed second in Board 3. 

Lindbergh Teachers Complete Down Syndrome Training

Four Lindbergh Elementary School teachers recently completed their training to become Down Syndrome Education Specialists. 

LHS Paints it Pink for Cancer Research

Lindbergh High School Student Council raised more than $5,000 for the American Cancer Society during the school’s Paint it Pink campaign in January. The group sold T-shirts and conducted class competitions at the Paint it Pink game Jan. 27, and all money was donated to the American Cancer Society.

RAD Stencils Safety Messages at Neighboring Campus

Lindbergh High School RAD—Reaching Adolescent Drivers—recently helped stencil the parking lot at Oakville High School, reminding students at the nearby campus to “buckle up” and promoting safe driving habits. The club has already painted stencils at LHS and several Lindbergh Schools. President Cass Wiseman, a senior, said the club’s goal is to make new stencils that additional school districts can use to paint their parking lots.
