New O'Leary's Owner Brings Youthful Outlook to Well-Known Restaurant
Kyle Hamacher says he is good in the kitchen, good behind the bar and loves talking with people.
As he takes over the reins of O'Leary's Restaurant, 3828 South Lindbergh Blvd., Sunset Hills, Kyle Hamacher, 24, is finding sleep to be a precious commodity.
Since he assumed ownership of O'Leary's on Mar. 15, Hamacher said he logged 13 to 15 hours a day of work at the restaurant.
But he's in his element and he thinks his youth works to his benefit.
"Being younger means I can do the hours," Hamacher said. "So I think my youth is an advantage. I can relate to a younger crowd."
Hamacher, who grew up in Town & Country and is a 2007 graduate of Parkway West High School, said he's the first of his old friends to own my own business.
And although Hamacher has a bachelor's degree in food management from the University of Missouri, Columbia as well experience as the assistant manager of Quinton's Restaurant in Columbia, MO, he says he is most heartened in his new venture by the fact that former owner Kevin O'Leary will be staying on as a consultant for five months.
"I credit everything to Kevin O'Leary for staying on and tutoring me on running the business," Hamacher said.
Hamacher said, however, he brings several talents to his new business, especially people skills.
"I love talking people," he said.
But there are other things, too. "I have a good kitchen mind and I'm good behind the bar. As for the books, I'm learning."
Currently, Hamacher is gearing up for March Madness specials and says he will have an updated menu in place by Mother's Day.
