Poll: What Have You Chosen to Give Up For Lent?
Now that Ash Wednesday is almost over, what have you decided to give up for the next 40 days?
Today, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of the Lenten season. According to Catholic.org, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ at Easter, but the 40 days prior is Lent, which is a season of self-examinination, fasting and penance in preparation for the Easter Day observance.
During Lent, Christians are supposed to turn away from sin, working on our redemption, which will not be complete until raised from the dead, in resurrected bodies like His own and called to the eternal communion of heaven.
Catholic.org says that each year the Church observes Lent where Christians, like Israel and the Lord, are tested. Christians participate in abstinence, times of fasting, confession and acts of mercy to strengthen their faith and devotional disciplines. The goal of every Christian is to leave Lent a stronger and more vital person of faith than when they entered.
So, now that your Fat Tuesday indulgences are over, what are you giving up for Lent, if anything? If the choices don't apply to you, feel free to share what you are giving up in the comments section.
