What Should Replace Sappington Farmers' Market?
What business would you like to see go in to the former market? We've heard rumblings about Aldis, Trader Joes and other grocers.
As the Sappington Farmers' Market closes its doors, residents prepare warily for the shuttered, empty, dusty storefront that feels ubiquitous in today's struggling economic climate.
So we want to know: What business makes you cross your fingers and hope they'll move in to the spot?
We've heard a few rumblings around town, especially from the residents who have longed for a Trader Joe's grocery store for some time. Should the next tennant be another grocery store? Is there another business that fits better?

Personally I think they should have more of a Farmers Co-Op type store. There is a Market at Tower Grove Park but it ends in Winter. I think that opening a farmers co-op with selling booths rather than a single pos. then you can meet the farmer, negotiate pricing or placing orders for the next time they will be in the booth. Give a more direct like Soulard but at a economically reasonable price. I would rather have fresh eggs, chicken, milk and veggies FROM the actual people producing them.

Trader Joes would be a terrific addition to the area. Their unique selection of food items at affordable prices is impressive. I would describe them as a kind of poor man's Whole Foods.

Trader Joe's most definately...The parking is much better than the one in Brentwood and it is a lot closer than Des Peres.

This is an ideal location for a Trader Joe's! It would be convenient to the communities of Affton, Shrewsbury, Webster Groves and Marlborough. Trader Joe's is renowned for being a "community-friendly" business. Kudos to the staff of the Affton-Shrewsbury Patch newsletter for initiating this column titled Vision for Vacancies. It is an ideal communications vehicle to let potential business owners know what sort of "community-friendly" businesses area residents want to have and would gladly support!

Trader Joe's at the Farmer's Market Site and Aldi at the the Save-A-Lot site would do wonders for Affton residents.
