The Sunset Hills Historical Society will honor and celebrate the 100th anniversary of Sunset Auto on Monday, March 26, 2012 at 7 PM at the Sunset Hills City Hall
Justin Heutel, fifth generation of the founding family of Sunset Auto, and Accessories and Service Manager of Sunset Auto, will present the history and evolution of his family’s automobile business.
Founded by Peter Heutel in 1912 as Sunset Auto Repair Company, a gas station and auto repair stop, on Gravois Road. Only four years later, Peter and his son Joseph, became a franchised Ford dealer. Shortly after World War 1 another son, John, joined the family business and today there are five generations comprising one of the oldest family-run dealerships in the country. In 1991, Sunset Ford moved just two blocks up Gravois Road to Lindbergh Blvd., in Sunset Hills. They also own a dealership in Waterloo, IL.
The dealership was eventually handed to grandson, Jack and his sons, John, James and Tom. Today the torch is carried by the fourth and fifth generation of Heutels, including Pete and Justin.

More About Sunset Hills City
This southwestern area of St. Louis County became a city in 1957 and annexed neighboring parcels of land up through 1998, expanding its size to nine square miles. The city is primarily residential, with most businesses and retail establishments situated along Lindbergh Boulevard, Watson and Gravois Roads. The city government campus houses three key buildings surrounded by picturesque Watson Trail Park: City Hall, police headquarters and the new addition of the Community Center.
