Crestwood Veterans Gunning for Memorial Funding

Vets seek pledges toward constructing a memorial spot in Whitecliff Park.

Military veterans based in the City of Crestwood are collecting pledges to build a new Veteran's Memorial at the entrance to Whitecliff Park.

Crestwood resident and Viet Nam veteran John Morrissette has been spending time at his post in the grocery store, taking pledges toward construction. He has drawings of a proposed memorial.

Members of Crestwood's Memorial Committee, including Morrissette, said the first choice for a new memorial is in  Due to costs, there is a Plan B.

The second choice would be to revamp the simple memorial already in front of , by the flag pole.

In the case of Plan A, the existing memorial block of granite/marble with etched veteran's names, would be incorporated into the new memorial.

The Memorial committee was started with the encouragement of Crestwood's police Chief Mike Paillou—himself a U.S. Marine. Morrissette was in the U.S. Navy.
