The Oak Bend Branch of St. Louis County Library celebrated its 25th anniversary Tuesday with a free birthday party, which included cake, a story reading and a display of photos taken at the branch throughout the years.

The Oak Bend Branch was St. Louis County Library’s 18th branch when it opened Sept. 29, 1986. Smith & Entzeroth, Inc. were the building’s architects. Set on 2.8 acres, the one-story branch features exposed brick interior walls with glass and wood partitions. The auditorium, which is used by many community groups, seats 100. Oak Bend is located near the Big Bend exit off I-44.

Since its opening in 1986, Oak Bend has issued 8.7 million books, magazines and audiovisual items.
