American Idol: Local Teen Gives It Her Best Shot

While Miranda Hall didn't make the cut, she said it was the experience of a lifetime.

Miranda Hall won't be the nation's next American Idol—at least not this year anyway.

The soon-to-be senior at Mehlville High School auditioned for the show Tuesday at Scottrade Center along with thousands of other hopeful vocalists. St. Louis was the first stop for the hit TV show's search for America's next superstar.

"It was hectic, but a lot of fun," she said. "The experience was great. I'll never forget it."

Miranda, 17, said she was seated in one of the first sections that were called to audition. There were 10 booths set up, each containing two show producers, she said. Four singers were assigned to each booth.

"You weren't allowed to say your name, say hi or talk to the judges at all," Miranda said.

She sang "Feels Like Home" by Chantal Kreviazuk and "The Way It Is" by Celine Dion.

When four contestants were done auditioning, they stood in front of the judges as a group.

"They (the producers) said something along the lines of 'Thank you for your audition, but you're not what we are looking for,'" she said. "We were given no feedback."

Miranda said several other current and former Mehlville students auditioned, but only one made it to the next round. However, she added that winners would be disqualified from the competition if they spoke to the press or posted anything about their win on Facebook.
