What Does Good Character Look Like to You?

Every day, we interact with people who show good character in our community. These people often do not seek recognition or accolades, but they make our world a better to place to live. At Lindbergh Schools, a National District of Character, we graduate competent and caring graduates each year, thanks in large part to a successful character education program.

This year, the Lindbergh Schools District Character Education Team would like your input as we reflect on our current District Character Traits. This renewal process will hopefully gather ideas from students, staff, parents and citizens from our entire community to ensure all are united in supporting the development of positive character.

In the following months we will ask you to contribute to our discussions and provide input about positive character in our youth by sending an e-mail to Character Education Coordinator Amy Richards, arichards@lindberghschools.ws, or commenting on our Patch.com blog site. If possible, please include an example of a person, organization, or group that exemplifies the character trait you are endorsing.

Then, in August we will vote on 13 traits—12 existing traits, and one new suggestion from the community. The Character Education Team will use your input to select 12 traits that coincide with the 12 months of the year, beginning in January 2013. These 12 selected traits will be prominently seen throughout our schools and community to reinforce the importance of each trait for all citizens.

• In March, we will ask for your input on the traits of Integrity, Courage, and Patience
• In April, we will ask for your input on the traits of Service, Self-control, and Goal-setting
• In May, we will ask for your input on the traits of Honesty, Cooperation, and Respect
• In June, we will ask for your input on the traits of Responsibility, Peace, and Caring

In addition, if you would like to suggest an additional trait to be considered, we would greatly appreciate your input.

Please check back often for updates and let us know where you see character in our community! We will use your examples in 2013 as we reintroduce our 12 character traits to the Lindbergh community.
