Area Restaurants Gear Up for Cinco de Mayo Festivities

San Jose Mexican Restaurant will have an outdoor tent, T-shirts and sombreros.

Even though Cinco de Mayo is technically a Mexican holiday, over the past couple of years, it's grown to be an nationwide celebration in the United States.

Many mistake Cinco as Mexican Independence Day, which is Sept. 16. It is a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, however according to Wikipedia.com, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

There are three Mexican restaurants in Sunset Hills and Crestwood, and they will be celebrating Cinco with specials all day long, considering the holiday falls on a Saturday this year. Enjoy!
