Crestwood Court Town Hall Set for Wednesday

Area residents can learn more about how Centrum Properties plans to revive the Watson Road space at 7 p.m. at the Whitecliff gymnasium.

A town hall meeting on plans for Crestwood Court is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m.

The event will be held at the Whitecliff gymnasium at 9245 Whitecliff Park Lane. Representatives form Centrum Properties will give a short presentation on the plans and time will be allotted for open comments and questions.

Centrum introduced their vision for The District at Crestwood during a town hall in October, which would rebuild the outdated mall as an entertainment-focused plaza with a movie theater, bowling alley, comedy club and live entertainment restaurant.

Centrum slated the first phase of the project to cost $102 million, including more than $26 million in economic assistance via tax increment financing and a community improvement district.

So this is a pre- election re- show and re-tell?..

Hey John, do you think this scheme will work? Seems like a huge property for doing something as limited as this. There already WAS a movie theater there, a bowling alley across the street, a comedy club (this isn't hollywood) and an eatery with a band (not gonna attract families). Maybe I'm missing something, but this seems an uninspired idea that couldn't possibly make use of the entire area.

It doesn't use the whole area. You might be aware that there is a Phase I (which is talked about above) and a Phase II, basically the old Dillards/Sears part of which nothing is said or known about. There isn't a name associated with any of the "concepts". The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports today more problems with the Ellisville TIF, specifically that Sansone is asking for more money. My other worry is that a lot of what I have read about TIF developments end up in litigation of some sort or another. Who is going to pay for that when if it comes time to protect the City's interest?

Bill I share your concerns. From a legal stand point the BOA are not exactly stellar performers. I can think of ' two Sealed from the Public settlements ' our leaders on the Board of aldermen have made ..within the last 12 months or so...I get the feeling they weren't in the city of Crestwood's favor...why else would they be sealed?

Steve I think having a 'if you build it they will come' mentality tends not to work..when it comes to developments.
Centrum doesn't seem to have any one commited to rent in the mall..and Crestwood resdients would take umbridge at anything that disturbs their tranquil backwater. The best they can hope for is to become 'Kirkwood Lite'..by building something that will be a focal point of the community.

Rumor has it that since Toby Keith's withdrew their interest, Centrum is expected to announce tonight that it will be replaced with a Mega Miss Sherri's featuring live entertainment on the weekends by the Bob Cuban band. The upscale bowling alley idea is also being scrapped for the country's first ever pay as play indoor shovel-board venture. Looks like Centrum has been reading the comments on the websites and blogs and is trying to better target the core demo of Crestwood.

Interesting! It would be nice to hear something new, but I guess we'll see tonight. Hopefully I get a good spot and can shoot some video for those who can't attend.

Good news indeed reasonable !!...It's almost impossible to get a decent plate of liver and onions in Crestwood since the exodus began.. and my shuffle board has taken a downturn since Carnival decided to specialize in salmonella poisoning and extended cruises..
