Nolan Office Interiors Plans to Vacate Crestwood Court

The office interior design company will relocate to Sunset Hills.

In a move that most saw coming, Nolan Office Interiors will relocate to 12955 Gravois in Sunset Hills after almost 2 years at its location.

The interior design business, which specializes in office design and planning, was at its Hampton location for 28 years. Sunset Hills Mayor Bill Nolan and business owner found that running back and forth between his duties in Sunset Hills and the business on Hampton proved to be too much.

“When I was elected mayor, I was running to Hampton, running to City Hall, then back to Hampton and then back home to Sunset Hills,” Nolan said. “When the lease came up we opted not to renew our lease on Hampton.”

After searching for the right location in Sunset Hills with no luck, he found the perfect space for the business in Crestwood Court.

“We put some color in it, moved our furniture into it, cleaned the floor, and it was just a snap to move into,” Nolan said. “It was $6 a foot and on Hampton it was $16 a foot. It saved us a considerable amount of money in the middle of a bad economy.”

Crestwood Court owners sent letters to all tenants saying they must vacate by Feb. 28, with the exception of Lens Crafters, the AMC Movie Theater and . According to Nolan, Sears wanted to stay through the construction.

“They came to us saying ‘You don’t need to move, you might as well stick around,’” he said. “We intended to stay there and then Sears announced they were closing their store.”

Nolan stressed that the management of Crestwood Court are wonderful people. In fact, they were prepared to modify the building to keep Nolan’s business there. However, he knew that he was probably going to move.

The new space at 12955 Gravois will house both offices and the warehouse, a move that Nolan is excited about. It will be the first time in 20 years that both will be in the same building. Nolan submitted all plans to the city this week and will remodel the office space. He hopes to be up and running by mid-April.

“Since I’m the mayor I want to cross every T and dot every I. I’m excited because this is a 5-year lease,” he said. “We start paying for it April 1, so the sooner, the better.”

Even though Nolan is excited about the move, he expressed his deepest sympathy for Crestwood.

“The loss of Sears has to be a huge blow. We do a lot of business out of town, so we’re not a major contributor of sales tax,” he said. “I don’t know what the answer is for the mall. I think the owners have ideas; I just hope they have good solutions. We’re all in this together—bottom line. I would love for it to become a successful retail center again.”
