Regions Bank Wins Community Improvement Award

The new location on Watson has served as a site revitalization.

After being at its new location only 6 months, Regions Bank at the corner of Watson and Lindbergh has made strides in the community. The bank just won the Community Improvement Award by the . They will receive the award at the March 20 awards banquet at Orlando Gardens Banquet Center.

The Sunset Hills Regions Bank history dates back to the early 1980s when the bank was originally owned by Landmark Bank and Trust. Then it was located at 10722 Sunset Hills Plaza. According to the Chamber, the bank went through a few mergers throughout the years. Landmark Bank and Trust became Magna Bank, which later became Union Planters Bank and then in 2005 Regions Bank came to Sunset Hills.

Regions Bank has 68 banking offices, 81 ATMs and approximately 696 employees in the Greater St. Louis market.

J.R. Horrall, Sunset Hills branch manager, has been with Regions for 10 years. He loves his staff; his teller manager is a 20 plus year employee; and his manager and two personal bankers are doing a great job.

“I love the area. Obviously Sunset Hills is a great place to work. It’s a well-to-do area and has great places to eat,” Horrall said.

Before deciding on the Watson location, the bank had been looking for property to build a new facility, specifically wanting to stay in Sunset Hills. Then the property at 10501 Watson Road became available. Construction began early in 2011 and Regions Bank Sunset Hills opened its doors in early October.

“We absolutely love it here. Banking is very competitive, so being on Watson Road is an opportunity for competitiveness,” Horrall said. “The building that was here before was kind of a ‘shed style’ building. With the new bank having four brick sides, it looks really nice on Watson Road.”

Horrall said that the new building has helped boost surrounding property values and it’s just aesthetically more pleasing with looking new and smelling new.

“I was extremely grateful (to find out they won the award). I know there are other community projects going on, so to be selected was certainly an honor and it made me proud to work for Regions,” Horrall said.

Horrall, Executive Vice President for Retail Banking Paul Lowery, Vice President of Marketing Tracy Brees and City President Sally Roth will all be present to accept the award on March 20.
