Sunset Hills Couple Opens Fizzy's in Webster Groves

A Sunset Hills couple is helping the soda fountain make a comeback in Webster Groves.

After Dr. Jazz closed on Gore Avenue earlier this year, Fizzy's began to move in a few months after the space was up for lease. 

Owner Michelle Bray and her husband, Tom, said they've made a point to hit soda fountains on their travels across the country, and wanted to keep the idea behind Dr. Jazz. Fizzy's opened Saturday, just in time for business from Webster Grooves music festival attendees, which took place along Gore Avenue.

"We're hoping to be a place where kids can come after school, or people can visit from down the street on their lunch break," Michelle told Patch. "We love the soda fountain and Webster's a great place."

The centerpiece of Fizzy's is, of course, an authentic soda fountain still in place from Dr. Jazz. Michelle said the counter is from 1932. 

Along with handmade sodas -- called "fizzies" -- with St. Louis's RIO syrups, Fizzy's will offer a variety of ice cream flavors from Ronnie's, based in Crestwood.

"We're trying to source from St. Louis as much as possible," Michelle said. They will also serve Chauvin Coffee, roasted in St. Louis, and had Sandbox Creative in Webster Groves design logos and signage.

Also on the menu are "quick serve" items including hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken strips, fries and onion rings. Salads and snacks such as nachos and pretzels will also be available.

Ronnie's Ice Cream has a specially-crafted ice cream flavor for Fizzy's, mixing peanut butter and chocolate with Reese's bits. Michelle told Patch they're also hoping to add pies and bubble tea selections to the menu, too.

Michelle said Fizzy's will be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and that they're hoping to open before the weekend hits this week.
