Family Reclaims $5,000 Accidentally Donated to Goodwill

An Affton woman dropped the cash off among bags of clothes, socks and towels to the Sunset Hills store, FOX2 reports.

A couple who accidentally donated $5,000 to the Sunset Hills Goodwill store  last month have reclaimed their cash, our partners at FOX2 report.

An employee found the money while milling through bags of donations.

The woman, who told FOX2 she didn't want to be identified but verified she was from Affton, said the donations were from her father's home.

"After he passed away, she says she emptied many drawers and did not see the cash.  She donated the contents of those drawers to Goodwill. The woman says her father and mother weren’t known to hide money in the house, but in this case they had.  The money had been mixed in with clothes, socks and towels," according to the report.

She and her husband passed along some words of wisdom to others who may have to go through a similar experience.

"The couple advises others to take their time when they go through a loved one’s possessions after a death. They remind you how personal a process it is and it is good to wait, talk about the memories, and take your time."
