Five Things You Need to Know Today June 3

73rd National Doughnut Day means freebies from Krispy Kreme.

1) Learn how to fish at Watson Trail Park (outdoors) in Sunset Hills, 9-11 a.m. for ages 8 and up with adult. Fishing equipment and bait provided, but bring bug repellent, hat and drinking water.

2) Laumeier Sculpture Park hosts free music Friday starting at 7 p.m. and movie starts by dusk, The Goonies.

3) Lindbergh School District year-round employees have a three-day weekend every week in June, July, part of August—administrative offices are locked up Fridays.

4) 73rd National Doughnut Day—Krispy Kreme (there's one in Fenton along Hwy. 44) gives away free doughnuts when you give a donation to the Salvation Army, and coupon for a $1.99 dozen, or a doughnut party for 15 people.

5) WEEKEND BONUS: Crestwood's adult pool party on Saturday 8:30 p.m. for residents and non-residents alike, The Aquatic Center in Whitecliff Park, $20 with dinner, music, wine/beer/liquor.

Bonus info: WWII soldiers came to be called "dough boys" after Salvation Army workers fried doughnuts in metal military helmets near the front lines to feed "the boys."
