Five Things You Need to Know Today June 7

Nos. 1 and 2 are a must, right? And No. 3 too.

1) Fundraise for Joplin today by eating at in Crestwood on Watson Road. The restaurant gives 10 percent of today's proceeds to the American Red Cross based in Joplin. Sweet Tomatoes is a salad and soup all-you-can-eat, with pizza, pasta, desserts.

2) A 6 p.m. Public Forum tonight at Crestwood's to gather ideas on volunteer projects with a $5,000 grant (free money) from The Home Depot Foundation. The top five project nominations will be put to a resident vote on the city website. You have to show up to win, or get your notion on the ballot!

3) Personal hygiene items for Joplin residents are in big demand, so in Crestwood is accepting those donations this week, and passing them on to the American Red Cross. Items include shampoo, toothpaste and brushes, bath soap, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, wipes.

4) Sunset Hills Public Works Committee meets 7-8 p.m. in conference room at, 3939 S. Lindbergh Blvd. Agenda includes occupancy code changes, contract awards for Mattese #40 and Kathy Court/Alswell Lane rehabilitation. Citizen comments open.

5) Free computer class meets 9:30 a.m. at Oak Bend Branch Library, 842 S. Holmes Ave. Topic is working with Excel spreadsheets.
