Great Escape: Coffee and Music Will Melt Your Day Away

For a quick caffeine refill or a quiet Friday night, head to Stone Spiral Coffeehouse and Curios for a great cup of joe, a good book and some relaxing music.

If you've ever been to  on Sutton Blvd, you know it thrives in a welcoming environment that encourages a moment of repose.

And, since it's somewhat off the beaten Manchester Ave path filled with busy shoppers and business, it could be just what you are looking for this week for a Great Escape.

Named 'Best Coffeehouse - 2010' by the Riverfront Times, Stone Spiral is a mainstay in Maplewood's culture scene. With coffee, a huge community book library and frequent live music you can never go wrong.

The coffeehouse keeps it nice and simple with a choice of espresso, americanos, regular coffee and lattes to choose from on the drink side of their menu, along with tea selections, Italian sodas and refreshing lemonade.

Create your own flatbread pizza with healthy choice options like hummus instead of regular pizza sauce, or pesto. You can also opt for one of their specialties like the bacon, caramelized onion, roasted red pepper and feta pizza.

Stone Spiral features poetry or music six nights a week, so you can check their calendar for upcoming events that fit nicely into your busy schedule, like Andrew John's original music on April 18 or Open Mic night every Wed.

Free wi-fi is available, and you can stretch your brain muscles with chess on Thurs. evenings. On Friday afternoons you can join a knitting group for a quick refuge.

Maybe all you realistically have time to do is stop in for a quick cup of joe, and that's ok too. On your way out grab a book from Stone Spiral's lending library, comprised entirely of literature supplied by patrons, then just bring it back when you're done.

Take a moment to peruse the featured art or many other products offered by local artisans in the area. By doing so you'll be taking a moment for yourself, which is what this column's all about!

Looking for coffee and music a little closer to home?

has the perfect ambiance to catch up on a good book while sipping an espresso and tasting some delicious gelato. The coffeehouse also has a theatre that features live music, plays, stories and coffee trivia. Check their website for upcoming event details.
