Rott School Ready for A Buyer

Paid up taxes removes the lien against the property.

Rott School could be on the market again, after owners apparently paid up on delinquent taxes.

The late gothic-style school, built in 1930-31, was due to be seized in August over the back taxes. It sits on three acres at 9455 Rott Rd. in Sunset Hills.

CCND, LLC—a property management arm of Duffe Nuernberger Realty—is listed as the owner in various documents, and presumably would have been responsible for property tax payment.

By removing the tax lien against the property, it would be available for sale.

At one time, the idea of converting the school into condos was floated, but city zoning for the area doesn't allow it.

The latest notion is to build three single-family houses, each with a one-acre lot.

It was unclear whether such a plan would need to go before the Sunset Hills Planning and Zoning board.

The Rott School building, which nearly doubled in size with a 1948 addition in the same architectural style, is listed with the National Register of Historic Places, according to 2005 documents found online with the U.S. Department of the Interior National Parks Service.

In many cases, listing on the Registry provides incentives to avoid razing the building, but does not necessarily prevent it from demolition.

The Rott School property was sold by its school district in 1984. From 1976 until the early 2000s, the school was known as the Judevine Center for Autistic Children, according to National Register documents.

Neighbors in the area of the school said they saw wood and boards in trucks at the now-vacant facility as recently as last week.
