Sunset Hills Company Donates Free Oral Care, Thousands of Dollars

Delta Dental's donation to "Mission of Mercy" event in Springfield helped more than 1,800 local residents.

Delta Dental of Missouri employees recently traveled to Springfield, Mo., to serve alongside 1,000 other volunteers to deliver $1.1 million of free dental care to 1,856 local residents.  The state’s first Missouri Mission of Mercy dental health clinic was held at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. Delta Dental of Missouri donated $51,000 to support this effort and another $10,000 to help the America’s Dentists Care Foundation, the umbrella organization for America’s Mission of Mercy events, purchase portable dental equipment for use at Mission of Mercy events nationwide.

“Over the past decade, we have witnessed the profound need that exists among local underserved children in St. Louis through our work with Give Kids A Smile,” David Haynes, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Missouri, said in a statement. “But, unfortunately dental disease and tooth decay are conditions faced by people of all ages. During the two-day Missouri Mission of Mercy clinic we saw hundreds and hundreds of adults with similar circumstances in need of the same critical care. Free dental clinics likes these are truly transformational for these individuals. Delta Dental of Missouri is thankful to have been given the opportunity to allocate our time and resources to help serve local communities throughout the state.”

Nationwide, Mission of Mercy volunteers have provided dental care to more than 100,000 people at a value of more than $50 million since 2000. A number of other Delta Dental plans have support the Missions of Mercy events in their states, and along with Delta Dental of Missouri, have collectively donated $162,000 to America’s Dentists Care Foundation.
