Joplin Donations: Deadline Tonight, Truck Leaves Sunset Hills

Sunset Hills City Hall is drop-off for donations of bottled water, snack bars, Gatorade and tarps so tornado recovery workers can keep going.

Sunset Hills Alderwoman Dee Baebler pleaded Saturday for more donations to go to Joplin by Tuesday night. She heads up a committee collecting key items for tornado recovery workers.

Baebler said volunteer workers asked for and "desperately" need:

  • Bottled Water
  • Gatorade
  • Tarps
  • Granola Bars

"This area is devastated, relief workers are exhausted, people are grieving and heartbroken. . .please help," Baebler said.

"Please remember, they need a large blood supply and medical personnel, as well," she said.

Some 900 were injured, 132 dead and 4o missing in the monster tornado a week ago.

Mrazek Moving donated a large moving van and driver to deliver it to Joplin, leaving Sunset Hills City Hall parking lot Tuesday evening.

Drop off the donations at the Community Center in Sunset Hills now through Tuesday (May 31.) No clothing or other items on this trip.

Baeber's committee is working with Service International—the same group of dedicated, Christian volunteers that helped Sunset Hills after its New Year's Eve tornado destruction.

"Let's show these survivors the spirit of 'neighbor helping neighbor' that we experienced earlier this year in Sunset Hills," Baebler said earlier in the week.

The Community Center is behind City Hall 3939 S. Lindbergh at W. Watson/Eddie and Park.
