1. At 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals will host the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Night at the Ballpark during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cards have donated 150 tickets to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), which have been distributed to supporters of the organization's programs. LLS said it encourages anyone who has been affected by blood cancer to attend. For more information, visit www.lls.org.

2. If you love a good political debate, you might want to join the on Guantanamo Bay tonight at 7:30 pm at Webster Groves University's Emerson Library Conference Room. It's the group's first event of the season. 

3. On September 7, 1813, the United States earned its nickname, Uncle Sam. Did you know that the name has been linked to Samuel Wilson, a meat packer who supplied barrels of beef to the U.S. Army during the War of 1812? He stamped the barrels with "U.S", meaning United States, but soldiers affectionately called it "Uncle Sam's" meat. After a local paper picked up the story, the name "Uncle Sam" became accepted as a nickname for the United States government.

4. On this day in 1998, St. Louis Cardnial Mark McGwire set a new major league baseball record. McGwire earned the honor of hitting the most home runs in a single season—beating the 61 home run record set in 1961.
