Maci Gapsch, 11, is the third person to die as a result of a house fire at 10005 St. Simon Court Tuesday morning. She had been in critical condition at Mercy Hospital St. Louis. She died at 7:28 p.m. Wednesday, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Maci’s great-grandmother, Georgette Gapsch, 79, and father, Terry “T.J.” Gapsch, 38, were also victims of the fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated, but St. Louis County Police Officer Rick Eckhard said it does not appear suspicious.
Funeral services are expected to be held next week, according to the Lindbergh School District website.
Maci’s sister, Mia Gapsch, 13, was in satisfactory condition in a hospital Wednesday.
Maci was a student at Sperreng Middle School in the Lindbergh School District.
Her fifth grade teacher, Daren Wolf, said Maci was "always helpful and sweet," according to the Lindbergh School District website. “She was just a wonderful friend to all of her classmates and always a good student. We will all miss her very much.”
Her sister also attends Sperreng, and the Lindbergh Schools Foundation has established a fund to provide for her needs.
Contributions may be made to: Lindbergh Schools, c/o Gapsch Family Fund at 4900 South Lindbergh Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63126. Write “Gapsch Family Fund” in the memo line. Cards may be sent to Sperreng's school guidance office.
