Former Sappington Elementary School Principal Dies

Funeral services for Ned Day, who served as the Lindbergh school's principal for nearly 20 years.

A longtime Lindbergh School District administrator died last week.

Ned Day, who served as the Sappington Elementary School principal from 1968 until 1986, started working in the Lindbergh School District in 1958, according to an announcement from the school district.

Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Kirkwood United Methodist Church.

"In the fall of 2008, students at Sappington enjoyed opening the doors on a new school addition which featured classrooms, a new gymnasium and new library. What they didn’t realize was that something was missing. When the new addition went up, a very special tree came down. The district discovered that a dogwood tree dedicated to Mr. Day had been buried under the new addition, and steps were taken immediately to replant a tree in his honor.  In June 2009, with a new dogwood in place, Day enjoyed cutting the ribbon at the 're-dedication' of his tree," according to the school district.
