More than 500 people – all touched by T1D (type 1 diabetes) met, mingled and were motivated at the 2014 JDRF T1D & Me Retreat, St. Louis Union Station Hotel. “All our families learned about the latest in research, care and treatment,” said M. Marie Davis, Executive Director of JDRF Greater Missouri and Southern Illinois Chapter - with offices in Crestwood. “Thank you to our generous sponsors, Lilly, United Way, The Tarlow Family Foundation, Animas, Novo Nordisk and the Crawford Taylor Foundation for making the Retreat affordable and accessible to all.”
Jay Hewitt, elite ironman triathlete who has been insulin-dependent since he was diagnosed with T1D 23 years ago, wowed the standing-room only crowd with his dogged determination to succeed in the most grueling of sports.

Networking connections were made, friendships launched and a renewed vigor instilled in all to do more to raise awareness and funds for JDRF (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) to prevent, treat and ultimately cure T1D. Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.7 billion to diabetes research.
