Long Elementary School fails to provide "Gold Standard" in safety

While we appreciate your prompt response, your efforts do not address all the safety concerns which exist. We raised a number of these concerns last year about this time but were dismissed and ignored. You can send all the memos and e-mails you want to Long parents but the access road has been used by vehicles other than Long school parents. The 18 wheel tractor trailer which rolled through our neighborhood on Tuesday is a perfect example of that.

Even when you finally have the gate installed it will no doubt be left open to traffic. Such cut through activity isn't limited to just Long School parents, anyone can take advantage of an open gate. This has already occurred and the access road has only been in operation for a month. Again, your "gold standard" in traffic safety has been compromised and you place students, parents and staff in danger when this "gate" is left open.

The access road needs to be closed until all safety measures are in place to insure the safety of all parties involved. These measures include the adopting of an ordinance making it illegal to enter the "exit only" access road from Doercrest Drive. A proper gate installed which incorporates the end of road traffic control device which was taken down as part of the construction project. Appropriate signage which indicates "Bus Exit Only" along with "Under Penalty of Law" referring to the adopted ordinance prohibiting such activity. This will no doubt require the cooperation and assistance of the city of Crestwood. These safety measures were discussed at a previous board of aldermen meeting; Mayor Schlink, Mr. Sime and Mr. Pratt are already aware of these suggested safety measures.

If the Lindbergh School District is serious about safety and wants be a good neighbor, the access road will be shut down until all safety precautions and procedures are in place.
