Police: Burglary Suspects Deal in Copper from Vacant Houses in Sunset Hills

Discovery of a parked getaway car led to a foot chase and nabbing two suspects later charged with burglary.

A 20-something couple from St. Louis nabbed Feb. 6 by police in Sunset Hills have been linked to a series of copper pipe and wire thefts in the area, according to police.

Samantha Norwood, 22, and Joseph Travis, 28, were charged with 2nd degree burglary, police said.

The pair targeted vacant houses in Sunset Hills and surrounding towns, police said. Norwood and Travis were nabbed in a foot chase as they left a house, headed to what police described as a getaway car.

According to officials, a Sunset Hills police sergeant was investigating a suspicious car parked in the 10200 block of Maebern Terrace about 11:20pm on Sunday, Feb. 6.

Shortly after police determined it was likely a getaway car, Norwood and Travis came out of a nearby house.

Police said the pair took off running when they saw police, but police chased them down quickly and took both into custody.

Investigators were determining whether similar incidents in neighboring towns such as Brentwood and Maplewood were related, police said.
