Lindbergh Prepares for Prom by 'Stepping Up'

The Step Up program is in place to help students celebrate safe, sober and drug free.

With students celebrating prom on Saturday, the district has implemented the Step Up program. Parents are asked to PROMise to help students celebrate safe, sober and drug free.

"Step Up is headed up mostly by Lindbergh parents but also involves parochial schools, local law enforcement and business leaders," Beth Johnston, Director of Lindbergh Community Relations, said.

The attached flyer outlines simple things that assure safety on prom night, from knowing who's driving to touching base to confirm all is well.

After-party safety, safety nets and general safety practices are covered. The and the state of Missouri have laws that prohibit adults allowing underage drinking on their property—wittingly or not—so parents should be vigilant of any after-hours house party planning.

Also, in the Lindbergh area, it is unlawful for anyone under the age of 17 to be in a public or unsupervised place midnight-6 a.m. on Friday or Saturday nights unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Crestwood Police Department Deputy Chief Frank Arnoldy said that patrols will keep an additional eye out in the community for prom night issues.

"The partying world has changed dramatically with the evolution of cell phones," Arnoldy said. "Gone are the days where you all had to do to find out where the party was is meet somewhere to know where you had to go. Now that all is handled with cell phones. We don’t have a big problem—only occasionally if someone’s parents are out of town."
