Missouri State Highway Patrol Accepting Trooper Applications

Testing begins in March in nine different locations in Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol currently is seeking applications for their 96th recruit class. Qualified individuals from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is March 4.

Candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 60 college credit hours
  • Two years of federal active duty military service with an honorable discharge OR
  • Two years of post-certified, full-time law enforcement experience at the time recruit training begins

Testing is offered at nine Missouri locations:

  • Troop A (Lee's Summit) - March 10
  • Troop C (Weldon Spring) - March 3
  • Troop D (Missouri State University-Springfield) - March 3
  • Troop G (West Plains) - March 3
  • Troop E (Poplar Bluff) - March 17
  • Troop H (St. Joseph) - March 17
  • Troop I (Waynesville) - March 10
  • Troop B (Macon) - March 3
  • General Headquarters (Jefferson City) March 23, 24, 26 and 28

Testing procedures include a written examination, a physical fitness test for duty assessment, a polygraph examination, a background investigation and an oral interview. Applicants also must complete a medical examination including vision and hearing; psychological examination and interview; drug screening and a final applicant review. Those who successfully complete testing will be eligible to continue in the selection process and begin training Jan. 16, 2013.

Starting salary for a trooper is $3,034 per month while in training; $3,217 per month after six months and $3,508 per month at two years of service. Other benefits include group health insurance, contributory retirement and career advancement.
