What Should Local Police Spend Time Enforcing?

We got this question from one of the spokespeople for the St. Louis County Police. What about your local cops? What's most important to you? DWIs? Residential speeding? Barking dogs? Drugs?

Does it really toast your cookies when a driver flies down your residential street going 10 or 15 mph over the speed limit?

Or maybe you're tired of seeing other drivers weaving down the highway, obviously loaded from a night of overindulging. Or maybe the issues in your community are even more serious, with drug deals going down openly on a nearby corner.

Where do you wish your local police department focused more of its time?

Here's why we're asking: One of my colleagues here at Patch received a recent list of police incidents from the Fenton District of the St. Louis County Police. On top of the list, the spokesperson for the district, Aaron Dilks, posed this question for us to pass along to our readers:

"Tell us your opinion: What would you like to see St. Louis County Officers enforce or pay more attention to? DWIs? Residential speeding? Barking dogs? Drugs? Let us know. We are here for you."

We're coming to the end of a long July Fourth weekend, where I know the police were focused on DWI enforcement and fireworks. I asked Dilks if there was something in particular that prompted his interest in readers' opinions. No, he said, "just wanting to know what is important to the residents."

I know everyone's not covered by the St. Louis County Police, but everyone's got police coverage. Where do you wish your local department spent its time? Which community are you from? Why is your choice a priority for you? Or are the police focused on the right things, as far as you know?
