Cheers, Jeers Could Get You Booted from City Meetings

The City of Sunset Hills puts a rule about applause and other vocal demonstrations during aldermanic meetings in writing.

Applause, cheers and boos are allowed at baseball games and musical performances, but these actions could have you escorted out of your next Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen meeting. New language added to citizens' Request to Speak forms now includes a warning that these types of public demonstrations will result in removal from the meeting by a police escort.

Several residents who attended last Tuesday's meeting weren't very pleased by the move, according to a Post-Dispatch report.

While the written warning is new, the directive is not. Over the past year I've seen Mayor Bill Nolan utilize the warning during discussions on dog parks, community libraries and doggie daycares.

Tell us: Do you attend public meetings? Do you think a rule like this is necessary, or are we all adults here?
