Crestwood Board of Aldermen Celebrate Veterans, Approve Voting on Seven New Ward Redistricting Committee Appointments

The next Board of Aldermen meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Crestwood’s Mayor Schlink and the Board of Aldermen discussed several topics in last night’s meeting including a ceremony to honor veterans and active duty service members in the community. The Veterans' Committee sponsored event will take place today at 2 p.m. in front of city hall regardless of the possibility for inclement weather.

Schlink went on to inform the board of seven new appointments to the city’s Ward Redistricting Committee to be voted on in upcoming months. The committee is made up of one private citizen, three city employees and the city administrator, city clerk and public works director.

The mayor hopes to have the committee appointed and begin working to redefine each of the four wards’ boundaries by May 2012. The goal of the committee is to balance each ward’s population within 5 percent of one another.

“I feel honored to have been asked to be a part of the committee,” said Jerome Friedeck, a potential committee member. “I believe I can add a lot to the committee because I believe in speaking my mind and being a little controversial.

Carol Wagner shared with the board a successful report of this year’s Make a Difference Day events. She estimated that 150 volunteers helped to restore two homes damaged from last year’s tornado, made donations to Feed My People charity, collected coats for those in need, delivered flowers to a nursing home and picked up trash in the city’s parks.

“This year’s Make a Difference Day was a huge success, and we are looking forward to planning next year’s events,” said Wagner.
