Crestwood 'Town Hall' Meeting Invites Community to Meet Candidates

Tuesday's informal question and answer session was the first opportunity for the candidates to introduce themselves.

Tuesday night gave the people of Crestwood a chance to meet 2012 candidates for Board of Aldermen seats. The informal town hall meeting took place before the 7 p.m. Board of Aldermen meeting, with Tom Ford moderating. The deadline to file for the race was Jan. 17.

First to speak was Paul Duchild for Ward 3, who is running unopposed. Duchild moved into Crestwood in 1997. His wife grew up two streets away from their current house. Their twin boys go to Long Elementary and their 12-year-old daughter goes to Truman.

Darryl Wallach, Ward 1, also is running unopposed. He has lived in Crestwood for 16 years and has worked in the insurance industry for more than 20 years.

Mary Stadter, Robert Deutschmann and Tim Trueblood all are running for Ward 2, however Deutschmann is unopposed. The 52-year resident of Crestwood will take over the one-year term seat being vacated by Steve Knarr. Stadter was the first to speak. She has been on the public works committee for two years, the last year being vice chairman. She moved to Crestwood in 1971 and is an IT professional.

“I want to run because it scares me to see how much retail revenue Crestwood has lost,” she said.

Tim Trueblood, is running for same seat as Stadter, which is the Chris Pickel seat being vacated in April. He has been in Crestwood since 1986 and has two children—one in college, one who just got her Ph.D. Trueblood has worked in the transportation industry for more than 40 years and served as a Crestwood alderman from 1993-2006.

“I want to represent my neighbors,” he said.

Running for Ward 4, Dan Tennessen spoke first. He has children in Crestwood schools and has a strong passion for helping people.

“I hope to represent the aggregate and to achieve a balanced budget, which is going to be an extremely difficult task,” Tennessen said.

Steve Nieder, who also is running for Ward 4, served as an alderman from 2006-2009. He has 30 years in business and wants the city to be in a more sustainable financial position than it is right now.

Each candidate had a chance to answer audience questions pertaining to current issues Crestwood is facing. The election will be held April 3, 2012.
