Crestwood's Ward 2 Calls for Meeting About Vacant Alderman Seat

Gather prior to Board of Aldermen meeting in chambers at Crestwood's Government Center, Tuesday, 6pm.

A pair of Crestwood residents are calling for a meeting of Ward 2 residents at the city's Government Center Tuesday, to consider the filling of a vacancy on the Board of Aldermen, after Jeff Schlink was elected mayor in April.

The meeting moderators will be residents Jackie Stock and Tom Ford.

Alderman Chris Pickel also represents Crestwood's Ward 2. He told Ford in an email that after a discussion with Schlink and Deputy Mayor Mimi Duncan, that the Ward 2 meeting was "probably unnecessary."

Pickel said he would not attend the Ward 2 meeting, due to work commitments. 

Ford said the meeting would still be held at 6pm Tuesday.

"We have some 'housekeeping' items on the agenda already, so please do not wait too long to send me your questions and we will make every effort to include them," Ford said in a blog post.

When Schlink was 18 months into office as a Ward 2 alderman, he successfully ran for mayor, defeating Roy Robinson in a bid for a third term.

Last month, Schlink  nominated retired Crestwood police Lt. Scott Mosby to fill the Ward 2 seat. But  in gaining a majority vote from the aldermen, as required by the city charter.

According to the charter, for the vacant Ward 2 seat. The city attorney said no mayor's nominee had been rejected previously, in recent memory.

Each of four wards make up Crestwood, and each ward has two reps, in addition to the mayor.
