Crestwood, Sunset Hills Going to the Dogs

The cities have made significant steps to bring in amenities for pet owners, including the approval of a dog day care and boarding facility in Crestwood this week.

A new doggie day care and boarding facility called Love Unleashed is coming to Crestwood.

The facility at 9221 Watson Industrial Park will offer both day care and overnight boarding for dogs. An indoor and outdoor dog park can be utilized by residents for a membership fee, owner Weston Ackermann said. Pop-up kennels will be used for overnight accomodations and the outdoor area will be protected by a 6-foot vinyl fence.

The facility will be open 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. on weekends. The outdoor dog park will be open 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday, and 12-4 p.m. on Sundays.

The Crestwood Board of Aldermen unanimously approved the request on Tuesday.

Ackermann's wife, Jennifer, works at the Watering Bowl on Lindbergh Boulevard. Ackermann works at the No Leash Needed dog facility in Valley Park, which currently serves some Sunset Hills residents. Learn more about No Leash Needed.

Ackermann told the board Tuesday he chose Crestwood because he felt it would pull in clients from Kirkwood, Webster Groves, and areas of South County.

He isn't the only one who saw a need to bring this type of facility to the area. Last month the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen approved Patches Ellis to operate a dog day camp at 10390 Watson Rd., between the former ColorArt building and Family Pet Hospital. Ellis' facility will not offer overnight boarding.

The cities of Sunset Hills and Crestwood have also been working together to open an outdoor dog park for residents.
