Karl Rove's 'Murder' Joke About Todd Akin - Out of Line?

Rep. Todd Akin's office said Karl Rove must have "misspoke" when he reportedly made a "murder" joke about the U.S. Senate candidate. What do you think, a joke or out of line?

According to Politico, in a closed-door fundraiser at the Republican National Convention, Karl Rove reportedly joked about the murder of Missouri GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin.

“We should sink Todd Akin. If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts!” joked Rove, according to a Businessweek report of the fundraiser included in the Politico article.

The alleged comment comes after, as previously reported by Patch,

Friday, in response to the alleged statements by Rove, Akin's office issued the following statement saying Rove must have "misspoke."

“Given the current FBI investigation of threats against Congressman Akin and call for acts of violence and rape against his family and staff joking as to the potential murder of congressman Akin is deeply disturbing.  I am certain he misspoke,”  Steve Taylor District Director of Congressman Akin.

St Louis has a Holocaust Museum - I encourage you to go visit, then say to me "I don't believe in murder, but people have the right to choose" - unfortunately, you are correct that humans have been given free will by God, but the consequences can be terrible...when we choose not to deal with our "original sin", but hide behind it as excuse.

Those who immediately called for TA to withdraw really blew it. They should have said, "That was a really stupid comment- worse than some of Joe Biden's. He should talk to a real doctor and get his facts straight." Then TA should have gone right back on the Jaco show (He should never have gone on it in the first place.) and correct his remark. Those who acted as judge and jury and pronounced the death penalty were neither fair nor politically smart.

Nothing Vice President Joe Biden has said comes close to the sexist, misogynistic, uncaring comments of Todd Akin, whose hatred of women reeks from his comments like rotten flesh. As horrendous, uncaring and anti-women a person as his comments show him to be, Karl Rove is worse. Joking about killing someone should be taken seriously, but then Rove, one of the architects of the illegal war in Iraq that should never have been launched, should have been behind bars years ago for war crimes.

Since some are ready to put Mr. Rove in jail for war crimes on top of his bad joke about murder, I wonder if they support the use of homicide drone missles against all "enemies", even American citizens, without a trial.

Akin was exactly right! Fertility doctors will tell you that high stress levels do indeed lessen the chances of pregnancy. Such is true in all species, just a fact of nature. The amount of course is different in any given case. And the word legitimate has many more meanings than just "lawful"! In this case, it was used to denote a "real" or forced, violent rape. Ask the Duke Lacrosse players of a few years back, about "illegitimate" rape! Karl Rove is the guy "who must go"! He DIDN'T missspeak! He attempted to joke about murder, in a highly volatile situation! Akin, his family and cohorts had already had threats made against them.
