MoDOT Urges Motorists to Minimize Travel Thursday Due to Icy Winter Storm

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports its St. Louis work zones for February 21-27.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for the possibility of an intense winter weather mix over the next 24 hours, but there are many work zones scheduled this week once the roads are clear.

Since Thursday’s winter storm will include ice, it will significantly impact travel. Those impacts will last until long after precipitation stops. This storm will create rapidly changing road conditions. Motorists should minimize travel if possible.

Those who must travel, be prepared to remain at your destination long-term. Be sure to allow plenty of time if traveling and give snow plows plenty of room to work.

MoDOT has full crews (approximately 400 employees and 200 trucks) that are ready for the snow and ice mixture. Crews have been working hard this week to pre-treat the major routes and minor roads all over the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Motorists should be aware of the following on-going closures:

  • I-64, St. Louis City, the Vandeventer ramp to westbound I-64 is closed until late 2013.
  • I-64, St. Louis City, drivers in both directions will have three shifted, 10-foot lanes between Kingshighway to Vandeventer until November 2013. The rightmost lane of eastbound I-64 will exit at Hampton.
  • Wellington, St. Louis City, the Wellington bridge closed over the River Des Peres until April 2013. Detour to Jamieson Avenue bridge.
  • I-70, (westbound section of the Interstate 70 Blanchette bridge over the Missouri River) will remain closed until fall 2013. The eastbound I-70 bridge has three lanes of traffic in each direction. The ramp from northbound 5th Street to eastbound I-70 is closed until fall 2013.
