PHOTOS: Mehlville Fire District Opens Firehouse No. 3
The district held an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday morning when residents had a chance to see the new facilities.
More than 100 people attended last Saturday’s open house of the Mehlville Fire District’s new No. 3 firehouse on Lindbergh Boulevard, across the street from Lindbergh High School.
The new 8,000-square foot facility will serve as training headquarters for the district, said Fire Chief Brian Hendricks. , which was located along Sappington Barracks road, and was built in 1957.
The No. 3 firehouse project, which costed approximately $2.4 million, was built without a tax increase.
“This is an example of good government should be run,” said State Senator Jim Lembke (Rep-District 1), who attended the open house.
Chief Hendricks said the key to success in funding the project was fiscal responsibility and understanding the needs of the community.
“And now we can deliver the best possible service,” Hendricks said.
Jack McKinley, a resident of Oakville, said he was happy about the new firehouse because a lot of people die in house fires when they do not have the luxury of having a firehouse nearby.
“Places like this make sure that doesn’t happen,” McKinley said.
