Regrouping County Districts Goes Public With Lindbergh Meeting Monday

The Reapportionment Commission is set to make a stop at Lindbergh High School for residents' input and present an overview of the process.

Representatives for a 14-member Reapportionment Commission is set to meet Mon., 7pm at Lindbergh High School in Sappington.

The Commission is tasked with drawing new boundaries for the St. Louis County Council's seven voting districts, based on 2010 Census figures.

The Commission is evenly split between Republicans and Democrats with one from each party in each of seven districts.

Four of St. Louis County’s seven districts have lost population over the last ten years, so those districts' boundaries would be re-drawn in a wider arc in order to increase the number of voters, and level out the seven districts' sizes.

The commission has until Thanksgiving to agree on a reconfigured map. The plan must have nine votes in order to go into effect. If the commission can't reach a consensus by deadline, the responsibility goes to the courts, who would end up drawing new district boundaries.

Crestwood is in District 5—which saw a nearly 2 percent drop in population. Sunset Hills is in District 6 and saw a very modest increase at .3 percent.

The County Council is a 7-member board elected by district, and manages St. Louis County government spending, programs, ordinances, parks, roads and more.

The public presentation and comment period will be in the Lindbergh Room at the high school, 5000 S. Lindbergh Blvd., starting at 7pm.

Another public forum will take place July 25, 7pm in the J.C. Penney Conference Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
