The Morning After: Sunset Hills Alderman Scott Haggerty Talks

Unopposed races and what's ahead are topics.

After all the returns were in Election Day, Sunset Hills Alderman Scott Haggerty offered up his responses to questions from Patch about the unopposed races of Haggerty, Pat Fribis and Jan Hoffman for the board.

Patch: Aldermen Haggerty, congratulations on your reelection. Why do you think three out of four aldermen—like yourself—were unopposed in this election?

Haggerty:  "I would like to think it is a testament to the hard work and involvement we have put into the community and support of the different boards we have been appointed to.

"Pat (Fribis,) Jan (Hoffman) and I  have been very active in the Parks and Recreation Board, especially spending time at the aquatic center and in support of our fantastic Swim & Dive Team; also, our attendance at the Community Center with the different programs and Fundraisers sponsored by different groups for the Tornado Assistance Fund.

"I really believe that our residents see our genuine involvement, knowing we are doing our best for the community.

"Pat is a member of the Finance Committee and Public Works Committee and Jan is a member of the Gemp Committee and the Pool Advisory Board, all of which are critical areas to helping maintain a healthy community.

"I am a member of the Business Development Committee, Personnel Committee, Tree Board and the TAF Committee, again all of which are integral parts to make things work smoothly in our community."

Patch: What do you see as your duty to residents as alderman, in your new term? What goals do you have for the city?

Haggerty:  "To remain accessible to our residents and neighbors and act as their sounding board so their ideas and concerns get to the proper departments.

"I would like to see the Community Center grow and become a focal point for our community. I  want to help the Aquatic Center draw the families into our park for their uses.

("I want) to continue helping bring businesses into the city to help with our tax receipts, along with supporting our current businesses by making it easier to do business here. (And) buying whatever we can in Sunset Hills first is a great way to support our current businesses."

Haggerty writes the occasional article about real estate for Patch and provides information on open houses Sunday to Patch, weekly.
