Two Employees Fired From Public Works in Sunset Hills

The pair was terminated immediately after aldermen voted unanimously.

Two Public Works employees were fired early Monday from Sunset Hills city government.

While few specifics were available, the cause was said to be insubordination.

Street Department employees Russell Bartch and David Lawrence were terminated immediately after the city's Board of Aldermen voted unanimously on the advice of Public Works Director Anne Lamitola. City employee Robert Riggs is street superintendent.

Bartch was hired about 10 months ago and Lawrence started in Sept. 2008, according to the city's website.

The aldermen met uncharacteristically late Friday in closed session over the matter.

Since the majority of the Public Works department starts early in the day and finishes about 3:30pm, the pair of laborers had already left for the week on Friday.

Early Monday, the pair was dismissed, officials said, without incident.

The city will be hiring for the two open positions in the typical fashion, officials said. No jobs were being cut from the payroll.

It was unclear immediately what the jobs paid.

The pair has not been reached for comment.
