175 LHS Students Step Up to Bat for Special Olympics

Students partnered with buddies from area elementary schools for a day of outdoor play.

More than 175 Lindbergh High School volunteers partnered with 'buddies' from area elementary schools to participate in Special Olympics softball games at Affton Athletic Association ball fields on April 4, according to a news release from the Lindbergh School District.

Buddies also enjoyed Hot Wheels races, face painting, cup bowling and pig races. Special Olympics allows students to compete in sports at their own ability level. LHS Student Council members served as referees, according to the release. They also planned the event.

“It’s fun helping out the school and getting to know all the kids,” STUCO member Eric Kalfus said. He acted as master of ceremonies for the event. “It was a lot of work setting up the Special Olympics, but it’s all for a good cause and that’s a good reason to do it.”
