Crestwood Elementary Celebrates 'Triple Crown' of Achievements

The school was named a National Blue Ribbon School, a National School of Character and a Missouri Gold Star School for the 2011-2012 school year.

In the horse racing world, the last Triple Crown winner was "Affirmed" in 1978. However, the has its very own Triple Crown winner in . During the 2011-2012 school year, Crestwood has been named a National Blue Ribbon School, a National School of Character and a Missouri Gold Star School.

“Earning Blue Ribbon is the highest honor our educators can achieve—it is like winning the Nobel Prize of education,” said Dr. Jim Simpson, Lindbergh superintendent, in a statement. “We are very proud of the students and staff at Crestwood whose concerted efforts have resulted in some of the best achievement scores in the state.”

The school will celebrate at an assembly May 22, and students and staff will wear matching T-shirts announcing their achievements. Parents, local goverment officials, state public officials and retired Crestwood teachers have been invited to the assembly. Patrick Kerr, director of communications and outreach for the Kansas City region of the U.S. Department of Education, will speak during the program. The school also will receive a proclamation from St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley’s office.

Crestwood was the only school in St. Louis to earn the National Blue Ribbon award and one of only three in Missouri. Crestwood ranks eighth in student achievement among 911 elementary schools in Missouri. It's also one of two Missouri schools ranked in the Top 10 schools in student achievement four years in a row.
