Ten students from 14 schools in the St. Louis area first competed to participate in the Washington University School of Medicine Health Professions Fair.

Afterward, students who were part of the fair, like Pauley, wrote essays about their favorite medical and health topics presented at the fair.

The winners were awarded the chance to work with Washington University professors and students through the Saturday Scholars program.

Pauley said he learned a lot from the medical fair.

“The fair was a good way to help with choosing a profession," Pauley said. "They had booths for every type of medicine field you could possibly go into.

“Becoming knowledgeable at a younger age can help me get farther in my career later in life. It really helps me in deciding what medicine field I wanted to go into,” Pauley said. No final decision yet.

Pauley plays on Lindbergh’s soccer and volleyball team and is active in the Spanish club as well.

Pauley said being involved at school and other programs was part of an overall plan.

“It gets me more well-rounded, so I can be a better adult when I grow up. I can have more on my plate, and not be so narrow-minded,” Pauley said.
