Kennerly Elementary Celebrates Heroes in Special 9/11 Assembly

Assembly commemorates the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.

Students at Kennerly Elementary School attended a Friday assembly commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The afternoon featured music from the Kennerly Character Choir, short speeches from students about heroes in their families and a salute to parents who came to the assembly. Some of the parents in attendance were firefighters, doctors and police officers.

Suzanne Christopher, principal of Kennerly Elementary School, told students that many heroes emerged out of the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in New York City, rural Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

Christopher also pointed out the ways Kennerly Elementary is helping out in the aftermath of the Joplin tornado. The disaster in the southwest Missouri town has sparked a call to action in the and around the country.
