Lindbergh Archers Compete in St. Louis Shootout

Lindbergh Archers Aim High

The Lindbergh Archery team participated in several tournaments this month, bringing home some exciting results. The team practices weekly at Sappington Elementary School.

At the St. Louis Shootout, 15 fourth- and fifth-graders from Kennerly and Sappington elementaries competed against 360 archers at Seckman High School. Lindbergh’s top scoring archers were:

  • Alex Zeitler, Kennerly, who placed 14th overall in the fifth-grade division
  • Grayson Kirkley, Sappington, who placed 10th overall among fourth-graders
  • Sofia Hyde, Sappington, who placed fifth overall among fourth-grade girls
  • Emma Gerwitz, Sappington, who placed 14th overall for fifth-grade girls

In addition, students took top honors at a tournament for grades K-6 at George Guffy Elementary School:

  • Sappington fourth-grader Ellie Goodman, Sperreng sixth-grader Maria Hyde, and Sappington fourth-grader Emma Reinsmith took first, second and third place among girls in grades 4-6
  • Alex Zeitler, Grayson Kirkley and Sappington third-grader Owen LaRue placed first, second and third among boys in grades 3-5
  • Sperreng students Chase Banning and Sean McNamara, and Truman student Billy Driemeyer took first, second and third among sixth grade boys

Middle School Students Head to State Geography Bee

Two middle school students will represent Lindbergh at the state level of the National Geographic Bee in Moberly, Mo., on April 5. Sperrreng eighth-grader Rounak Bera and Truman eighth-grader Nate Blackwell both qualified to participate in the contest by winning their school-level test and passing the state examination test. The winner from each state will advance to the national competition in Washington, DC, which will air on the National Geographic Channel on May 23.

Lindbergh Student Takes First in Piano Festival

Lindbergh High School junior Laura Rottman recently took first place in the Missouri Federation of Music Clubs Fourth District Junior Festival on March 3, at St. Charles Community College. For her outstanding performance, Laura also won the $200 Evelyn Rubenstein and Lisa Brown Piano Solo Scholarship Award and will now be the state representative at the MFMC State Convention/Competition on May 18 at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO. Laura has studied piano under the direction of Donna Bowen Vince of Webster University for the past seven years. The Missouri Federation is part of the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Strings Soar to Success at Festival

Lindbergh High School orchestra students attended the 2013 Solo and Ensemble Festival at Florissant Valley Community College on March 2. Eight earned a “1” Superior rating and will go on to attend the State Music Festival in Columbia on April 27. For the festival, students prepared a solo or small ensemble performance. “Our students worked very hard to have a successful experience,” said Sue Rola, LHS orchestra director. The following students earned a "1" Superior rating:

  • Stephen Ahrens – viola solo
  • Caleb Henry- viola solo
  • Caleb Henry & Stephen Ahrens – viola duet
  • Bridget Kohl- piano solo
  • Carly Rupp – violin solo
  • Adela Rybar – violin solo
  • Michael Skaer – violin solo
  • Megan Vollenweider – violin solo

String Quartet to Perform at Scholarship Luncheon

The Concord String Quartet made up Lindbergh sophomores Carly Rupp, Ryan Adams, Caleb Henry and Ann Iverson, will be performing at the College Club's 112th Birthday and Scholarship Benefit March 21 at 11 a.m., at the Sunset Hills Country Club . The scholarship club award scholarships to senior girls at Lindbergh High School each year.
