Lindbergh Cancels Elementary, Middle Summer School

Move follows cancellation of middle school program last year; high school program remains.

Budget constraints have caused the school board to cancel summer school programs for elementary and middle school students, though, the program will be still be taught at the high school.

The school board approved the measure during a board meeting on Tuesday at Lindbergh’s Early Childhood Education Center.

The district cancelled its summer school programs for middle school students last year when faced with construction at the two middle schools and anticipated loss of state funding. This year’s planned reductions intend to help the district balance its budget for the upcoming school.

Previous programs have helped students struggling academically. To offset the potential achievement lapses from canceling the program this summer, the district has used individualized instruction throughout the school year to help such students catch up with their classmates to avoid the need for the four-week summer program, Lindbergh spokesperson Beth Cross said.

The Lindbergh High School (LHS) summer program is comprised of four-day work weeks, beginning June 11 and continuing until July 19. A condensed program is also available as well, running between June 11 and June 28.
