Lindbergh's Students Boast Recent Accomplishments

Students in the Lindbergh School District are a busy group; many received accolaides in the month of February. 

Senior Sean Murphy signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for Maryville University. He will play for the Maryville Saints under the direction of Coach Mike Sigler. In addition to being on the Flyers' team, Murphy also played baseball during the summer for the Rawlings Titans through the Balls 'N Strikes organiztions. He also received an academic scholarship due to his B or higher GPA throughout high school.

Several Lindbergh Students participated in the 2012 All-Suburban Sixth Grade Orchestra and the 2012 All-Suburban Middle School Orchestra. All-Suburban music ensembles are sponsored by the St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association. Six string students were recommended by the orchestra directors from Sperreng and  Schools. Eligible seventh- and eighth-grade musicians were required to audition for the All-Suburban Middle School Orchestra. (See photos for students' names) 

School students assembled 24 bags of pet treats, toys, food and brushes for goody bags for families who adopt a pet at the Humane Society of Missouri.

The project is part of the girls’ efforts to earn the Lindbergh Triple Crown Award, which includes a requirement for 50 service hours. They collected donations at school and in their neighborhoods. (See photo for students' names.)

Students from Truman and Sperreng Middle Schools participated in the regional Science Olympiad tournament at Ladue Middle School, competing in 23 events that covered a variety of categories. In addition, students finished third in their regional Science Olympiad event at Lindenwood University, qualifying them for the state meet in April.

Sperreng’s team came home from the middle school competition with a sixth-place finish. In addition, several students placed among the top five in the regional competition.

The Lindbergh High School Jazz Lab competed in the 27th Annual Jazz in the Meadows festival in the western suburbs of Chicago in February. The band tied for first place in the "Second High School Band" category. This is the highest placement the band has received in its four years of attending the festival. In addition to the ensemble's achievement, senior guitarist Will Gerdel and freshman alto saxophonist Steven Johnson both received "Outstanding Soloist" awards.

The Lindbergh High School Winter Guard earned first place scores and a circuit promotion at the Eureka MCCGA festival. The team, which competed against 12 other guards in their class, is a new program at LHS that extends the curricular goals of the color guard program into the winter season. The guard is directed by Sheryl Silverberg.

The Lindbergh High School DECA club members competed among more than 600 students from 14 area schools, at the district competitions. Thirty of LHS’ 67 students placed in their competitions and were honored on stage. Of the winners, 20 will advance to the state competition in March (medal winners came in 5th or 6th place).

Lindbergh High School sophomore Brian Barrett was recently accepted into Class 8 of Cultural Leadership, a year-long educational leadership program for high school students that teaches tools to bring about social change. The program’s goal is to dispel stereotypes and promote mutual respect, understanding, dialogue and cooperation among all people. Class 8 is a year-long program that includes 28 students from 20 high schools and 15 houses of worship throughout St. Louis.
