Lindbergh Student Finds Meaning Through Soccer Leadership

Varsity soccer player Abby Rossi wants to show others in the same way she has been influenced.

Awesome Action: This past summer, the four-year veteran of Lindbergh High School girls soccer team, Rossi was named as co-captain of the varsity team.

How: Captains are chosen by their coaches. For Rossi, this is an honor. “It shows that my coaches thought of me as more than just one of their players,” she said. She knows that is takes more than just playing ability to be recognized. To her coaches, she “stood out with the ability to help out my teammates in a positive role.” Since taking on this leadership role, Rossi admits that it has made her care much more about the sport and has even made her care more about her team.

What More: It seems that these leadership skills will serve her well in her future. After graduation, Rossi plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University to study education. She wants to become a special education teacher.

Throughout Rossi's life, soccer has been a big inspiration. She hopes to carry on that level of inspiration to those who will come after her. “I will hopefully coach girls or boys soccer,” she said.

Another, great source of encouragement for Rossi has been her mother. “She is the one who inspired me to become a teacher. She always thought that I would teach because I have a big place in my heart for kids,” Rossi said.

Rossi's attitude, in part, has been a large source of her success. If she could spread one message to other girls, it would be to “always think positive—and be confident all the time—but not to the point of being cocky.”
